Councillors Mary Easton and Tim Jones Inspect One Of The New Stiles
Liberal Democrat controlled Brereton and Ravenhill Parish council have taken over formerly derelict and unused allotment land in Newman Grove, Ravenhill. Lib Dem parish councillors led by district councillors Ray and Mary Easton and Gerald Molineux cleared the land and many years growth of weeds, rubbish and even trees and rotovated it. Parish Councillor Tim Jones dealt with the transfer of the land and the tenancy agreements, saving local council-tax payers from having to pay legal fees. Within a fortnight of plots becoming available, 13 of the 14 plots have already been let, all to residents of Newman Grove, and tenants have already started work on their plots.
Councillor Jones, said," While national politicians talk of the "Big Society", local Liberal Democrat parish councillors have for years been giving their time free of charge to help local communities. This latest project is just one of many we as a council have undertaken with the sole intention of improving our area. For example, we have installed of several new kissing gates on public footpaths in the parish, replacing stiles which were difficult for less able walkers. This was done entirely by unpaid Liberal Democrat volunteers."
